PEPPER SAMBHAR - MILLAGU KUZHAMBU

My mom used to make this kuzhambu one day after diwali.. this helps in digestion after all the sweets that we have.. 

Ingredients :

Tamarind soaked in hot water – lemon size
Salt to taste
Jaggery – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

To roast and grind :

Ghee – 1 tsp
Red chillies – 6
Pepper – 1 and ½ tsp
Chana dal – 2 tsp
Urad dal – 2 tsp
Coriander seeds – 2 tsp
Curry leaves – 5-6
Hing – 1 pinch

For tempering :

Ghee – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Red chillies – 2
Curry leaves – 3-4

Method :

1)     In a pan, take 1 tsp ghee and roast all the ingredients mentioned in “for roasting and grinding” till the dals get golden brown
2)     Once cool grind this to a fine powder
3)     In a pan take ghee and temper mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves
4)     Remove the pulp from the soaked tamarind and add this to the mixture
5)     Add turmeric powder, jaggery, salt and boil till the raw smell of tamarind goes off
6)     Add the spice powder and boil for  few minutes till well blended
7)     Serve hot with rice mixed with ghee
