SIMPLE RASAM

Ingredients :

Tomatoes chopped fine – 2
Jaggery – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Green chillies -3
Hing – 1 tsp
Jeera – 1 tsp
Pepper – 1 tsp
Cooked dal water – 1 cup
Finely chopped coriander leaves – for garnishing

For tempering :

Ghee – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Jeera – 1 tsp

Method :

1)     In a pan take chopped tomatoes, green chillies, ½ cup water, salt and boil
2)     Add turmeric powder, jaggery and hing and boil till tomatoes get cooked well
3)     Powder jeera and pepper to a fine powder and add this to the rasam
4)     Add the dal water and boil the rasam on a sim flame till you see it frothing
5)     Take a small pan add ghee and splutter rai and jeera
6)     Add this to the rasam and garnish with coriander leaves
7) Serve hot with mashed rice and ghee with applam
