This is a breakfast item mostly eaten in Kannada homes.. very healthy and tastes just yum with coffee in the morning.. light on the stomach as well..
Ingredients :
Raw rice – 1 cup heaped
Salt to taste
Fresh grated coconut – for garnishing
Finely cut coriander leave – for garnishing
For paste :
Fresh grated coconut – 1 and ½ cups
Jaggery – 2 tbsp
Thick tamarind pulp or paste – 3 tsps
Red chillies – 7
For tempering :
Oil – 3 tbsp
Rai – 1 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Hing – a pinch
Method :
1)
Soak the rice for 3 hours, drain and grind it without
adding much water to a coarse paste – it should resemble sooji
2)
In a mixie grind all ingredients under “for paste” and
grind to a fine paste without adding much water
3)
Mix the rice and the coconut paste, add salt and adjust
spice, it should resemble idli batter
4)
Steam this in a vessel in a cooker for 30-35 mins on
high flame
5)
Once cooled, crumble this with your hand, keep aside
6)
In a pan take oil, splutter mustard seeds and urad dal,
add hing
7)
Add the crumbled mixture and sauté it in sim flame for
5-10 mins
8)
Garnish with grated coconut and coriander leaves
