This ammini is with dal mixture ground and steamed.
Ingredients :
wet rice dough (for modak) - 1 cup
salt to taste
For the usili :
tur dal soaked for 1 hour - 1/2 cup
chana dal soaked for 1 hour - 2 tbsp
salt to taste
red chillies - 3-4
hing - 1 tsp
curry leaves - 4-5
for tempering :
oil - 1 tbsp
rai - 1 tsp
Method :
For the steamed balls :
1) mash the dough with salt nicely adding little oil
2) make small balls and steam them
3) keep aside to cool
For the usili :
1)drain the dals \
2) grind the dals, salt, red chillies, curry leaves and hing to a smooth paste without adding much water
3) steam this in a greased idli plate
4) once cooled, crumble it. if it is too hard to crumble into a smooth powder, you can even grind it dry in a mixie
5) in a pan take oil and splutter rai
6) add the crumbled mixture and saute for 5 mins
7) add the steamed balls and saute again for 5 mins
