SALT AMMINI KOZHAKATTAI

Ammini kozhakattai or ammini modak is basically mini rice balls made out of left over dough of modaks. these balls are steamed and then sauted with different accompaniments. This one is with the same steamed mixture with which we make salt modaks

Ingredients :

Dough made with wet rice flour (for modaks) - 1 cup
salt to taste

salt mixture :

urad dal soaked in water for 1/2 hour - 1/4 cup
green chillies - 2-3
salt to taste
hing - 1 tsp
curry leaves - 5-6

for tempering :
oil - 1 tsp
rai - 1 tsp

Method :
for the mini balls :

1) mash the dough with salt properly
2) make small balls and steam it in a greased idli plate
3) keep aside to cool

for the mixture :

1) drain the urad dal and keep aside for 10 mins
2) grind it along with salt, green chillies, hing and curry leaves to a fine paste without adding much water
3) steam this in a greased idli plate 
4) once cooled, crumble it well
5) in a pan take oil and splutter mustard seeds
6) add the crumbled mixture and saute for 5 mins
7) add the steamed balls and saute for 5 mins



instead of making salt modaks, you can even make this.
