HANDVO

Ingredients :

Tur dal – ½ cup
Chana dal – ¼ cup
Rice – 1 cup
Salt to taste
Curd – ½ cup
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Green chilli – ginger paste – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp + for greasing
Soda bi carb – 1 tsp
Grated bottle gourd or carrots or both – 1 cup
Sugar – ½ tsp
Lemon juice – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

For tempering :

Oil – 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Til – 2 tbsp
Hing – 1 tsp
Red chillies pinched – 3

Method :

1) Soak the rice and dals for ½ day
2) grind them into a coarse paste without adding water
3) add salt and curd, mix well and keep it closed in a warm place overnight for fermenting
4) next day add green chilli-ginger paste, grated veggies, lemon juice, sugar, chilli powder, oil and turmeric powder and beat well. keep aside
5) take a glass oven proof bowl and grease it with oil
6) In a pan take oil, splutter mustard seeds, til, red chillies and hing and pour it on the dal mixture.
7) pour this mixture slowly into the glass bowl. Bake it in 220 degrees for 30-35 mins or till it becomes crusty.
