Ingredients :
Basmati rice - 1 cup
chana dal soaked for an hour - 1.4 cup
onions sliced lengthwise - 2
ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
coriander green chilies paste - 1 tbsp
garam masala or biryani masala - 1 tbsp
mint leaves chopped fine - 3 tbsp
coriander leaves chopped fine - 2 tbsp
saffron soaked in 1/2 cup mi
lk - 1/2 tsp
curd - 4 tbsp
salt to taste
chili powder - 1 tsp
turmeric powder - 1 tsp
ghee - 3 tbsp
Method :
1) cook the basmati rice with salt til 3/4 done
2) in a open pan cook the chana dal with salt and turmeric powder till it gets cooked well but doesnt get mashy
3) in a non stick pan add the ghee and saute onions till light brown
4) add the ginger garlic paste, coriander green chilli paste and saute well
5) add salt, garam masala, chilli powder and saute well
6) add the curd and mix well
7) add the cooked chana dal and keep aside
8) in a rice cooker, add 1/2 chana dal mixture, top it with half rice, sprinkle half the saffron-milk mixture, add half chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves.
9) make another later in the same manner as the previous step which means you should end with the leaves.
10) close this cooker with an alluminium foil and close the cooker with the lid and switch on till it gets cooked like dum.
11) mix well and serve hot with curd sprinkled with chaat masala
