MOLGAPODI (Chutney powder to eat with idlis and dosas)

Ingredients :

Chana dal - 1 cup
Urad dal - 1 and 1/2 cups
Red chillies - 1 cups
Coriander seeds - 1/4 tsp
White sesame - 4 tbsps
Asafoetida - 1/2" (preferbly use the stick)
Oil - 1/2 tsp
Jaggery (optional) - 1"

Method :

1) Take oil in a kadai and roast the asafoetida and red chillies, keep aside
2) Dry roast the Chana dal and keep it aside
3) Dry roast urad dal, til, dhania seeds and keep aside
4) Grind the red chillies and chana dal first with salt. Once it is coardely ground, add the rest of the
5) roasted ingredients and grind to a semi fine powder.
6) mix as and when required with til oil and have it with idlis and dosas.

Tips : My granny used to add a 1" of jaggery piece while grinding.
you can even try this :
you can apply this paste on left over idlis, keep it marinated for some time and then have it. This is usually packed and taken by southies when they travel by train for long distance. trust me, theres nothing more heavenly than this!!!!
