APPLE SHEERA

Ingredients :

Semolina - 1/2 cup
apple pureed - 1 large
Milk - 1/4 cup
water - 1 cup
sugar - 1/3 cup
Saffron (optional) - 1 pinch
cardamom powder (optional)
ghee - 3 tbsps for cooking the sheera and 1 for tempering
Cashew nuts chopped - 2 tbsp for tempering (optional)
kismis - 1 tbsp for tempering (optional)

Method :
In a non stick pan, roast the semolina to a light pink colour (make sure it doesnt get over roasted)
In another vessel,  add the water and milk and bring to a boil, you can add the saffron at this time if you using
Once boiled, add this to the  roasted semolina, mixing it continuously. (make sure you dont get lumps, you generally dont if you add the water to the semolina, you may get lumps the other way round).
Add the sugar and keep stirring continuously.
add the balance ghee and mix well
Lastly add the apple puree
cook till the water has dried up.
sprinkle cardamom powder if you are using.
In a small pan, add the ghee for tempering, fry cashew nuts and kismis and pour over the sheera (if you are making sheera for a puja, generally they do not put cashew and kismis)
Variation :
You can even add ripe banana instead of apple puree and mix well. Sheera with banana is generally made by maharashtrians for satyanarayan puja.
