This is made for sankranti festival in every south indian's house.
Ingredients :
Moong dal - 1/4 cup
Rice - 1 cup
Jaggery - 3 cups
Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
ghee - 10 tbsps
quartered cashew nuts - 3 tbsps
raisins - 2 tbsps
Method :
1) Dry roast the moong dal and cook it along with the rice in a cooker
2) In a kadai take the jaggery along with 1 cup of water and boil only till the jaggery melts
3) add half the ghee and the cooked rice-dal mixture and stir well
4) add all but 1 tbsp of ghee and mix well. Put off the gas
5) in a small pan, take 1 tbsp of ghee and roast the cashew nuts and raisins and add it to the pongal.
sprinkle cardamom powder.
