SIMPLE GUJRATHI DAL

Ingredients :

Tur dal - 1 cup
tomatoes chopped - 2 medium
ginger grated - 1 tbsp
red chilli powder - 1 tsp
salt to taste
jaggery - 1 tbsp (can be adjusted)
green chillies slit - 2
coriander powder - 1tsp
turmeric powder - 1tbsp
ghee - 1 tbsp
coriander leaves for garnishing

for tempering :

Ghee - 1 tsp
cumin seeds - 1 tsp
red chillies - 2

Method :

In a pressure cooker, mix toor dal, ginger, turmeric powder and tomatoes and cook for 4-5 whistles
In a pan, take ghee, add chilli powder, green chillies, coriander powder, saute for a  min
add the cooked dal, jaggery, salt to taste, water and boil for 7-8 mins
for the tempering, take ghee in a small pan, splutter the cumin seeds, add the red chillies and pour over the dal
garnish with coriander leaves

some people put kokam as well, but I add tomatoes for the sour taste. by adding kokam, you also lose the yellow colour
